Jesus Death, Resurrection, Ascension Muhammed

The suffering and death of Jesus on the cross is of essential importance to the New Testament as is his resurrection from the dead. Together, they embody the idea of redemptive suffering. By taking his undeserved suffering upon himself, Jesus saved humankind from the burden of sin he had laid upon himself in the beginning. This event is commemorated every year on Good Friday, followed by Easter Sunday. In the New Testament, the ascension of Jesus is a separate event, remembered on Ascension Day. The Last Day will see the second coming of Jesus.

In the Qur’an, the suffering of Jesus figures barely or not at all. It dismisses outright the idea that the Jews crucified Jesus. God would not allow such a thing. If someone was crucified, as historians contend, Islamic tradition has it that it was someone else on whom God had bestowed the likeness of Jesus. God took Jesus to himself and did not let his beloved prophet be crucified.

This does not imply that the concept of redemptive suffering is alien to the Qur’an. Almost all the prophets do come up against the resistance of their people; Noah and Moses are examples, and Muhammad himself met with much suffering and frustration. But in the Qur’an, their difficulties did not lead to the cross. In the Qur´an God lifts up Jesus to be close to him. He will be given the role of witness on the Last Day. The Quran also refers to the acsension into heaven of Muhammed whilst still alive, from Jerusalem. On this very special night voyage he met Adam and Jesus and experianced God before descending to the world.

Bible

Jesus crucified
He (Jesus ed.) said, “Assuredly…no prophet is accepted in his own country.” But they shouted “Crucify Him, crucify Him!” Luke 4: 24
Luke 23: 21
Then the soldiers of the governor …stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” Then they spat on Him… and they took the robe off Him… and led Him away to be crucified.

Now…there was darkness over all the land. And…Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying… “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split…
Matthew 27: 27-31, 45-46, 50-51

Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it (the corpse of Jesus ed.) in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before. Luke 23: 53

Resurrection and ascension

Now after the Sabbath…Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold an angel…came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. …the angel…said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen…” Matthew 28: 1-2, 5-6

…He… presented Himself alive after his suffering by many infallible proofs…during forty days… Acts 1: 3

…while they (the disciples ed.) watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who… said, “…why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Acts 1: 9-11

Quran

They killed him not
Is it that whenever there comes to you a Messenger with what you yourselves do not desire, you are puffed up with pride? – some you called impostors, and others you slay! 2 The Heifer, 87

And (the unbelievers) plotted and planned, (against Jesus ed.) and Allah too planned, and the best of planners is Allah. 3 Al-‘Imran, 54

That they (Jews ed.) said (in boast): “We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah.- but they did not kill him, nor crucify him,

but so it was made to appear to them,

and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow,

for of a surety they did not kill him. 4 The Women,157

Jesus raised up unto God

Nay, Allah raised him (Jesus ed.) up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise. 4 The Women, 158

Ascension ‘Isa…Muhammed

Behold! Allah said: “O Jesus! I will take you and raise you to Myself and clear you (of the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow you superior to those who reject faith, to the Day of Resurrection:…and I will judge between you of the matters wherein you dispute.” 3 Al-‘Imran,55
